SCOTIA — Congratulations to HV Select's 2005 Girls who won the NYS Empire Cup over the June 24-25th weekend at Maalwyck Park in Scotia.

The girls, who were playing in their first soccer tournament together as a summer select team, opened their tournament on Day 1 with a convincing 9-0 shutout.

The girls dropped their second match 3-2 after giving up a heart-breaking late goal, but came out strong on Day 2 with an early 8-1 win.

The team advanced to the finals where they took on international team FC Trois Lacs from Quebec, Canada. The girls ultimately came out on top with a winning 4-2 result against the Canadians in an impressive and thrilling final.

With three wins out of four matches, the girls outscored opponents by a combined 23-6 over the weekend.

Players and coaches closed out the weekend with a fun and exciting awards ceremony where they had the opportunity to meet their French-speaking Canadian counterparts. The girls highlighted their good sportsmanship and gained a valuable "beyond the game" experience.

Congratulations to the coaches and players for a fantastic weekend of soccer and a wonderful display of their first-class sportsmanship.
