MONROE — The Catholic Charities 2018 Caritas Award Honorees include the Rev. Thomas Byrnes, Betsy Johnston and the Sacred Heart Outreach Ministries of Sacred Heart Church in Monroe.
The Monroe Knights of Columbus #2079 and John Cardinal O’Connor Assembly members recently presented a check for $1,000 to Byrnes and Johnston.
The presentation, in honor of Byrnes and in appreciation of the work that is done with Our Father’s Kitchen, was made at the annual Celebration of Charity dinner held March 22 at Anthony’s Pier 9.
The Most Reverend Dominick Lagonegro, Auxiliary Bishop of New York and Vicar of Orange County, was the host.
The Caritas Awards are presented by Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan each year to members of the community who exemplify the non-profit human service agency’s mission to provide help and create hope.
Byrnes has been a member of Monroe Council for ten years and serves as our associate chaplain.
