The public is invited to the be part of the Quasquicentennial Ceremony, marking the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Village of Monroe, on Saturday, Aug. 3, from noon to 1 p.m. at Village Hall at 7 Stage Road. Village officials have a series of events celebrating the anniversary throughout the year. Among them will be retrospectives on people and events that shaped the community since 1894. This photo comes courtesy of the Monroe Historical Society, It shows Lake Street in the Village of Monroe circa 1927. Elsewhere in the world that year, the Holland Tunnel opened, Charles Lindbergh made the first transatlantic flight, "The Jazz Singer," the first movie with sound, debuts, work began on Mount Rushmore and Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs for the New York Yankees.
